Today I started reading Ephesians 1 and verse 1 talks about how Paul was chosen to be an apostle by the will of God and immediately the word will hit me. I wondered, what is the will of God? and, what does it mean?
I began to think that what is God’s will for us as his children? I then tried to find a definition of the meaning of the word.
I found out it had many definitions:
It is described as determination, firmness of purpose, fixity of purpose, strength of character, resolution, resolve, resoluteness, purposefulness and dedication. There is also a definition pertaining to God – wish, desire, decision, choice, intention, decree, ordinance, command and dictate. One that struck me is “what someone wants to happen” (Cambridge dictionary). So based on that I translate it to mean God’s will is what he wants to happen in our lives.
So what is God’s will for us? I came across a blog (https://www.biblestudytools.com/topical-verses/bible-verses-about-gods-will/) that broke things down for me and together with the witness of the Holy Spirit I have put together what I believe some of God’s will for us as believers is.
The Bible says a lot about God’s will for our lives
First of all, God’s will can be found in the scriptures and through his principles for us.
The scriptures says God’s will is for us to prosper Jeremiah 29:11
God’s will is for us to be saved 1 Timothy 2:3-4
For us to be thankful in every circumstance 1 Thessalonians 5:18
For us to be sanctified (set apart, purified for him) and to avoid sexual immorality 1 Thessalonians 4:3
For us to be at peace so we can be equipped to do his will Hebrews 13:20-21
For us to be his disciple Luke 9:23
For us to light our way with his words Psalm 119:5
For us to have wisdom James 1:5
For us to trust in him and not lean on our own understanding Proverbs 3:5-6
For us to do good (literally ha ha ha) 1 Peter 2:15
That his kingdom be established here on earth and in our lives as it is in heaven Matthew 6:10
For us not be unwise but live wisely taking advantage of every opportunity. Not to be drunk on wine but being filled with the Holy Ghost. To speak to one another with Psalms, hymns and songs from the Spirit. To sing songs unto the Lord with from our hearts. To always give thanks to God (trust God) through every situation Ephesians 5:15-20.
For us to know that he is patient with us to make us into whom he wants us to become and for us to come to him 2 Peter 3:9.
For us to know that he is always ready to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all our unrighteousness when we confess our sins to him. He is full of forgiveness. 1 John 1:9
For everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth (Jesus is the truth: The way the truth and the life John 14:6) 1 Timothy 2:4.
For us to act justly, love mercy and to walk humbly with God Micah 6:8.
For us to know that he is in control and works out everything to its proper end Proverbs 16:4 (For he causes all things to work out for our good- believers walking in his will Romans 8:28).
For us to know that there is a reward for us if we do not give up and persevere Hebrews 10:36.
Ultimately, God has a will for my life. Within this will, God has a particular purpose that his will in my life will fulfill and a plan for me to fulfill this purpose.
Therefore knowing that God desires that all may be saved, I would like to invite anyone who is not a believer to come to him because he loves us and desires for us to know him too.
Simply pray this prayer: Dear God, I am sorry for turning away from you and doing things my own way. Please forgive me of my sins. I confess with my mouth and I believe with my heart that that Jesus died for my sins. I ask him to come into my heart and be the Lord of my life. Thank you Lord God in Jesus name I pray, Amen.
That’s it. If you said this prayer and believed, you are born again and the Holy Spirit will come into your life. Your life will never be the same again. Stay blessed.
