I started reading my bible today. I felt a leading to the new testament and then found myself in Matthew chapter 7 and reading on judging others. But I flipped a page before and my soul settled on Matthew 6: 19-24. As I read through my spirit was quickened by verse 23b where it talked about if the light you think you have is actually darkness, then how deep that darkness is.

I stated trying to understand what that meant. The preceding verses talks about our eyes being the lamp of our bodies or of our souls (mind, will and emotions). If we do not know God or have a relationship with him through his son and the leadership of the Holy Spirit then we are spiritually blind and living in darkness. Our eyes only transmits what it can see physically. This way even though we think we are smart, intelligent, rich, resourceful our focus is only on carnal things. The things we can only see with out carnal eyes.

Especially in the mind. If our minds have not been renewed through a relationship with God, then our source of illumination is not Christ neither is it Christ focused. Which means we are in darkness and the decisions we make that governs our life will be apart from God and his ways. Our thoughts and mindset will be based on the things of the world: the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life.

We will make our priorities in life based on carnal judgments. Storing up riches and focusing only on things of the flesh that we can see. The bible says that the flesh profits nothing John 6:63. The flesh refers to the sinful nature of man which acts in rebellion against God and his ways. So the flesh cannot provide any spiritual insight into the things of God. Neither can it give us eternal life. The flesh naturally wants to do the things that appeals to it, its senses and not God.

On the other hand, John 6:63 explains that it is the Spirit that gives life and the word of God gives life. When we become born again then Jesus through his word and the Holy Spirit will illuminate our eyes to the truth of God and his love and will for us. Our source of life becomes God the father through his son, Jesus with the help of the Holy Spirit who abides in us. It is only then we realize that we have been living in darkness and that God is the only true source of life. The Holy Spirit begins the work of transformation to change us to become more like Christ and to focus more on the light of God and on his word.

If our eyes are on the Lord, then his light the word of God and the Holy Spirit fills us up and illuminates Christ in us. His light explains the bible to us and what God is to us and where we are to place him in our lives. We will strive to make him the highest priority possible in our lives and he in turn will direct us in how we are to live our lives in light and not in darkness.

The bible says that God desires that we all live in his light 2 Peter 3:9 and that none of us should perish but come to him. If you are not sure that the source of your light is Christ then it is time you made a decision to make him savior and Lord of your life. Perhaps you think that God and all that you know about him is a myth. This is your carnal mind speaking and telling you that God is not real so you can just live anyhow you want. Jesus says in the book of John 12.45-48 that he has come as a light into the world to help people escape the darkness. Even though we hear his word and choose not to follow him, he does not judge us as he has come to save us and not judge us while we live in the world.

However, the bible says we will all give an account before God of how we live our lives when we dies and there is judgment. If we want to escape this judgement then it is time to come to the Lord. While we are alive so that we can accept his salvation and light and be free from the judgement of condemnation that comes with rejecting the light of the world, Jesus Christ John 12:48. The bible says that if anyone comes to me he will not cast away John 6:37.

I encourage you today to make Jesus the source of light in your life. Please say this prayer, Dear Lord, I am sorry for my sins. Please forgive me and come into my hear. Be the Lord of my life. I surrender to you in Jesus name. My friend if you have said this prayer, you are born again, into the family of the light that is Christ Jesus. God will put the Holy Spirit in your life, find a church that teaches the word of God and welcome to the family of believers.
